Beach time, Garifuna culture and a table over the Caribbean. Make room for all three.
This is our starting guide to a day in Hopkins, with ideas for exploring the village and heading inland. Pick one main outing, leave room to linger, and make lunch or dinner part of the plan.
Hopkins is known for its Garifuna heritage. Explore the village’s food and music through locally hosted experiences. Lebeha Drumming Center offers a way to learn about Garifuna drumming; contact the host for availability before making plans.
Keep part of the day free for Hopkins Beach and a meal by the water. Ask locally about conditions on the day, and choose where to spend your beach time accordingly.
Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary protects rainforest habitat in the Maya Mountains and is known for its jaguar conservation role and birdlife. Treat it as a nature outing, with wildlife sightings a possibility rather than a promise. Ask about current access and guided options before setting out.
Mayflower Bocawina National Park combines forest trails, waterfalls and Maya sites. Choose a route that fits your group, and check trail conditions and activity arrangements directly before you go.
Enjoy more of the village or settle in by the sea. For a rainforest or waterfall trip, give that outing its own day or confirm the timing with your operator.
